SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team wrapped up its three-match homestand with a pair of losses to Grace College and Huntington University, including a heartbreaking five-set setback suffered at the hands of the Lancers.

Spring Arbor won two of the first three sets against Grace (16-13, 7-6 CL) on Friday night, but the visiting Lancers held off the Cougars in set four to force a decisive fifth set.

In the epic final frame, the two teams continued to battle back and forth, trading blows and fighting off multiple match points before the Lancers finally secured the set 25-23 giving them the 3-2 match victory (22-25, 25-13, 18-25, 25-16, 25-23).

Junior Rebekah Kujat and sophomore Leah Rose paced the attacked with 17 and 13 kills, respectively, while sophomore Olivia Landis added eight. Freshmen setters Annica Stotz and Kasey Follis combined to hand out 44 assists. Three Cougars recorded double-digit digs, including senior libero Kayleigh Bytwerk, who finished with a match-high 23.

The next day, Spring Arbor faced off against Huntington (6-12, 6-8 CL). The Foresters captured the first two sets en route to earning a 3-1 win over SAU (25-23, 25-17, 21-25, 25-18).

Kujat and Rose posted 17 and 11 kills to lead the way while Stotz and Follis directed the attack with 37 assists. Bytwerk and Rose registered 21 digs apiece. Sophomore Courtney Kyser added to her Crossroads League leading block total with four more on the afternoon.

Spring Arbor (5-19, 1-13 CL) will visit Marian University (5-14, 3-10 CL) on Wednesday, Oct. 21 before competing in the Cornerstone University/Aquinas College Crossover Tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan this weekend.
