Women's Soccer finishes perfect conference season with win at Saint Francis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – For the third straight season, the Spring Arbor University women's soccer team ran the table in the Crossroads League achieving a perfect 9-0 record following its 3-0 shutout of the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Saturday night.

The No. 7 ranked Cougars ended the regular season riding an 11-match winning streak while owning an overall record of 15-2-1. Meanwhile, Saint Francis saw its run of three consecutive victories come to a halt as it fell to 11-7 with a 5-4 mark in conference play.

Spring Arbor had the game well in hand after scoring two goals in the first 19 minutes. Freshman Bethany Balcer put the Cougars on the board in the ninth minute with a strike from the top of the 18-yard box. Less than 10 minutes later, junior Corrie Good found sophomore Aubrey Schierbeek for her 11th goal of the campaign.

Balcer would find the back of the net one more time before the night was over, capping the scoring early in the second half. In the 51st minute, a corner kick from sophomore Sarah Klunder found the head of Balcer who beat the USF goalkeeper to the near post.

Senior netminder Sarah Yancer saved the only shot she faced to record her fifth clean sheet of the season.

Spring Arbor begins postseason play Saturday, Oct. 31 when it hosts eighth-seeded Huntington University (9-9-0, 3-6-0 CL) in a Crossroads League Tournament quarterfinal matchup.
