Men's Soccer plays to scoreless draw with MVNU

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 24 ranked Spring Arbor University men's soccer team played Crossroads League rival Mount Vernon Nazarene University to a scoreless draw in double overtime on a wet and rainy Saturday – the second draw of the season.

The result moved the Cougars to 6-4-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in conference play, while MVNU went to 5-3-4 and 1-0-2.

"Sometimes the ball simply won't go in for you," said head coach Nathan Miller following the match. "It's hard for sure right now. We are doing all of the right things and getting excellent chances, we are simply not scoring. Our guys are frustrated but, collectively, we are confident that we will fix those mistakes. We are always growing."

Senior captains Christian Strangis and Cody Getsinger, along with sophomores Matthew Strangis, Jake Sterling and Michell Simon, were outstanding defensively for Spring Arbor. Junior goalkeeper Cobi Piper was solid between the pipes turning away five shots, including a great save to keep the visitors off the scoreboard in the closing minutes of regulation.

"We are so, so solid in the back so when you go through these spells you stay in every game and alive ready to go on a roll," added Miller. "Also love that our fans always bring it even in bad weather!"

Spring Arbor returns to action when it travels to Grace College (7-4, 2-1 CL) on Wednesday, Oct. 7 in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
