Women's Basketball closes Huntington Classic with win over IU-Southeast

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – After suffering a 67-56 loss to the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) on Friday night, the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team bounced back with a 58-46 win over Indiana University-Southeast to close out the Huntington University Classic on Saturday.

Spring Arbor opened the game against IU-Southeast on a 14-3 run and would never surrender the lead.

The Grenadiers closed the gap to two, 28-26, midway through the third quarter. However, the Cougars would close out the period on a 14-1 run en route to their fifth victory of the season.

Junior Rachel Driesenga recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Cougars. Senior Jessica Mabry also scored 10 points off the bench while sophomore Autumn Goggin chipped in nine.

On Friday night, Spring Arbor looked to hand Saint Francis its first loss of the season, but the Fighting Saints proved to be too much for the Cougars. Spring Arbor had a 15-13 lead after the first period of play, but Saint Francis outscored SAU 39-23 over the next two periods to build a lead the Cougars were unable to overcome.

Junior Kylie Townsley finished with a team-high 19 points going 8-for-12 from the field. Goggin followed with eight points while Driesenga contributed seven. Junior Karly Bender and Mabry also dished out four assists apiece.

Spring Arbor (5-2, 0-0 CL) will tipoff Crossroads League play when it hosts Goshen College (7-1, 0-0 CL) on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.
