UPLAND, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball fell 94-56 at Taylor University on Saturday.
The Cougars trailed by 11 at halftime, but struggled to get anything going offensively in the second half shooting just 14 percent from the field, allowing the Trojans to pull away.
Aimee Konkel finished with a team-high 11 points while Kylie Townsley and Lindsey Burnside followed with nine points apiece.
Taylor (15-11, 8-6 CL) had everything clicking early, hitting five of its first seven shots to open a 12-3 lead before quickly pushing the margin to double digits. The Trojans maintained a comfortable margin though most of the first half before back-to-back baskets from Konkel and Townsley narrowed the deficit to eight, 34-26, with 6:28 remaining in the period. The home team answered, though, with a 9-2 run en route to a 47-36 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Trojans hit their first seven shots to build a lead that would be too much for the Cougars to overcome.
Taylor shot 53 percent (40-for-75) on the day while holding SAU to just 26 percent (19-for-72) from the field.
Jessica Mabry and LeAnn Porter chipped in seven points each. Porter also added five rebounds and two steals.
Spring Arbor (7-18, 2-12 CL) will travel to No. 9 University of Saint Francis (19-7, 10-4 CL) before hosting No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan University (22-4, 13-1 CL) and No. 7 Marian University (22-4, 11-3 CL) in its final homestand of the season.
