Volleyball Takes Fourth at Concordia Kickoff Classic

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team took home fourth place in the Concordia University Kickoff Classic after dropping a pair of matches to Siena Heights University to close out the tournament on Saturday.

In the first match of the day, the Cougars fell to the Saints 3-1 (19-25, 16-25, 25-20, 19-25). Sophomore Rebekah Kujat recorded a team-best 14 kills while sophomore Leah Rose and freshman Kasey Follis followed with seven and six, respectively. Freshman Annica Stotz handed out 19 assists and Follis added 10 more. Stotz and Rose also registered three aces apiece.

Junior libero Taylor Johnston picked up 13 digs while Rose tallied nine. Sophomore Courtney Kyser had a big day at the net finishing with 12 blocks, including seven solo.

After re-seeding, Spring Arbor was set to square off against SHU, once again, in the third place match. The Cougars claimed the first set to jump out to an early lead, but the Saints answered with three straight set wins to take the match 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 19-25, 21-25).

Rose and Kujat each recorded double-digit kills with 12 and 11 to lead the attack. Stotz directed the offense with 15 assists while adding three more aces.

Rose also paced the defensive effort with 13 digs and Johnston finished with 11. Kyser continued her big day racking up 10 more blocks while sophomore Olivia Landis had eight.

Follis was named to the All-Tournament Team after an outstanding collegiate debut. In four matches, she totaled 28 kills, 48 assists, one ace, nine digs and seven total blocks.

Spring Arbor (1-3) returns to action at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Early Bird Challenge on Friday, Aug. 28 and Saturday, Aug. 29. The Cougars will meet Michigan-Dearborn at 2 p.m. to kick off the weekend followed by a match with No. 15 Madonna University at 4:30 p.m.
