SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team suffered back-to-back defeats to Taylor University and Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Friday and Saturday.
Facing her alma mater for the first time, head coach Betsy Martinez and the Cougars fell to Taylor 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-16) before dropping a three-set match to MVNU (25-17, 25-12, 25-13).
Against the Trojans, junior Rebekah Kujat posted a team-high eight kills while sophomores Leah Rose and Olivia Landis followed with five and four. Freshmen setters Kasey Follis and Annica Stotz combined for 22 helpers and three Cougars recorded aces. Sophomore Gabrielle Hilliard scooped up a team-best eight digs.
The very next day hosting Mount Vernon Nazarene, Kujat would again pace the attack with eight kills, and Landis and Rose added six apiece. Stotz handed out 14 assists while Follis registered 10. Rose finished with a team-high eight digs while sophomore Courtney Kyser notched three blocks.
Spring Arbor (4-10, 0-4 Crossroads League) will play six of its next seven matches on the road, including three straight, beginning with a trip to Bethel College on Wednesday, Sept. 16. The contest is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
