Women's Soccer cruises in final non-conference tuneup

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 8 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team poured on the offense early and often in its final non-conference match, defeating Point Park University 6-0 on Monday afternoon.

The win improved SAU to 6-2-1 on the season while Point Park slipped to 3-3-1.

Spring Arbor tallied four goals in the first 22 minutes, including two by sophomore Aubrey Schierbeek, to quickly put the contest out of reach. Freshman Bethany Balcer got the scoring starting in the fourth minute when she slotted a shot past the PPU goalkeeper off a rebound attempt. Schierbeek would find the back of the net for the first time in the 11th minute before striking again just five minutes later. In the 22nd minute, Schierbeek found junior Corrie Good open in front of the net, and Good would finish to give SAU a 4-0 lead, which it would take into halftime.

The Cougars added to their lead in the 70th minute when freshman Casandra Besteman slipped a pass through three Pioneer defenders to senior Olivia Clark for the tap-in goal. Freshman Katie Carroll capped the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 79th minute.

Spring Arbor dominated the match with 27 shots compared to Point Park's four.

Up next, the Cougars will travel to Huntington, Indiana for its Crossroads League opener against the Foresters of Huntington University (5-3-0) on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m.
