HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Freshman Bethany Balcer struck for two goals to lead the No. 10 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team past Huntington University 2-0 in its Crossroads League opener on Saturday.
The win was the third straight for the Cougars, who improved to 7-2-1 on the season, while the Foresters slipped to 6-4 overall.
After a dominant start to the match, Balcer put SAU on the board in the 29th minute with a blast from 20 yards out. She would extend the Cougars' lead to 2-0 in the second half, striking from long range again in the 66th minute.
The goals were Balcer's 10th and 11th of the season, which not only leads the Crossroads League, but ranks top 10 in the nation.
Senior goalkeeper Sarah Yancer finished with a pair of saves to help Spring Arbor record its second straight shutout.
The Cougars registered 31 shots on the night – putting 18 on target – while the Foresters managed just four. SAU also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Spring Arbor will return home to host Goshen College (4-6, 0-1 CL) on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
