UPLAND, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's tennis team held off a late charge in singles play to defeat Taylor University 5-4 in Crossroads League action on Tuesday.
Quincy Banini and Monika Wynne, as well as Mary-Kate McShane and Emily Joseph, helped put the Cougars out in front with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Banini and Wynne cruised to an 8-2 victory while McShane and Joseph triumphed 8-4.
Taylor (0-2, 0-2 Crossroads League) battled its way back though with a couple early wins in singles competition. However, McShane and Joseph countered with straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles before Wynne clinched the final point for the Cougars with a dramatic 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles.
Spring Arbor (2-0, 2-0 Crossroads League) will return home to host Grace College (0-1, 0-1 Crossroads League) on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 11 a.m.
