WINONA LAKE, Ind. – After suffering a hard-fought loss to the University of Pikeville on Friday, the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team bounced back with a commanding 76-48 win over Silver Lake College on Saturday to close out the Grace College Hoops for Hope tournament.

VS. PIKEVILLE

FINAL SCORE: Spring Arbor 67, Pikeville 74

LOCATION: MOCC | Winona Lake, Ind.

RECORDS: Spring Arbor 4-2, Pikeville 6-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor jumped all over Pikeville, which entered the contest ranked No. 17 in NAIA Division I. The Cougars shot over 60 percent from the field in the first quarter to grab a 21-15 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
  • SAU continued to shoot the ball well in the second period and would take a 43-30 lead into halftime.
  • Pikeville flipped the script in the second half, however. The Bears limited the Cougars to just 3-for-16 shooting in the third quarter as they erased the double-digit deficit, and eventually pulled ahead 55-49.
  • Spring Arbor battled back, though, and would close the gap to one, 65-64, with 1:43 to play, but back-to-back buckets by Pikeville would help clinch the victory for the Bears.
  • Aimee Konkel poured in a season-high 17 points, hitting five three-pointers, to lead the Cougars.
  • Three other SAU players would finish in double figures. Kylie Townsley recorded 14 points while Autumn Goggin and Rachel Nelson chipped in 10 points apiece.
  • Spring Arbor shot 42 percent (27-for-64) from the field, but struggled at the free throw line, hitting just 7-of-15 attempts.
  • Pikeville dominated the glass, out-rebounding SAU 45-32.
