ALMA, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's tennis team opened its spring schedule with an impressive 8-1 victory over Alma College on Wednesday afternoon.
The win improved the Cougars to 6-5 overall this year while the Scots dipped to 0-2.
Spring Arbor swept the doubles matches behind an 8-3 win by Quincy Banini and Monika Wynne at No. 1 and an 8-0 victory by Alyssa Bart and Jewell Allen at No. 3. The team of Mary-Kate McShane and Emily Joseph also prevailed 8-6 at No. 2.
In singles competition, the Cougars won five matches, including straight set victories from McShane, Wynne and Joseph. Banini and Morgan Keeler also earned wins. Both battled back after dropping the first set to win in three.
Up next, Spring Arbor will host Lawrence Tech (7-3) at Albion College Courts on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. before traveling to Hilton Head Island for its spring trip on Mar. 7-11.
