INDIANAPOLIS – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team had its season come to a close after falling to No. 6-ranked Marian University 78-50 in the semifinals of the Crossroads League Tournament on Friday night at the PE Center.
After upsetting the University of Saint Francis in the quarterfinals, Spring Arbor was making its first-ever appearance in the semifinal round since joining the league in 2004-05. The fifth-seeded Cougars started hot racing out to an 8-0 lead, but the defending conference champions, and top-seeded, Knights (27-5, 16-2 CL) battled back and were able to grab a seven point advantage heading into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Marian was able to pull away in the second half, outscoring SAU 43-22 over the final two quarters to earn its second straight trip to the championship game.
Sophomore Autumn Goggin paced SAU with 15 points while junior Kylie Townsley followed with 14. Junior Aimee Konkel added seven points and junior Rachel Driesenga chipped in five points and eight rebounds.
Spring Arbor ends the season with an overall record of 17-15 – the most wins by the program since 2003-04.
