SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's tennis team suffered a pair of losses to some tough competition over the last two days. The Cougars fell 9-0 to No. 17 ranked Davenport University on Tuesday before dropping a 6-3 decision to NCAA Division II foe Lake Superior State University on Wednesday.
The losses snapped Spring Arbor's six-match winning streak, dropping its record to 11-7 overall.
The Cougars ran into a buzzsaw as Davenport (12-5) took all three doubles matches to grab the early lead heading into singles play. From there, the Panthers picked up straight set victories in each of the singles matches to snap SAU's winning streak.
The competition did not get any easier the following day as SAU faced off against Lake Superior State (3-12). The Cougars earned a pair of wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Quincy Banini and Monika Wynne posted an 8-4 win while Mary-Kate McShane and Emily Joseph held on to prevail 8-5.
However, Lake Superior State took five of the six singles matches to secure the overall win. Wynne captured the lone singles point for the Cougars at the No. 3 spot.
Spring Arbor will return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 12 against Concordia University (0-12) at 4 p.m.
