Volleyball tripped up at Taylor, MVNU

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to two of the Crossroads League's top teams over the weekend. The Cougars fell to Taylor University 3-0 on Friday night before suffering a straight set loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday.

 
 

MATCH 1 (TAYLOR)

FINAL SCORE: Spring Arbor 0, Taylor 3

LOCATION: Odle Arena | Upland, Ind.

RECORDS: Spring Arbor 2-5 (0-3 CL), Taylor 5-6 (2-1 CL)

 
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • SET SCORES: 25-14, 25-18, 25-10
  • Alyssa Walker recorded a team-high six kills to for the Cougars while Courtney Kyser followed with four. Olivia Landis, Rebekah Kujat and Sydney Ritz all finished with three apiece.
  • Annica Stotz handed out nine assists and Kasey Follis ended the match with seven.
  • Leah Rose and Taylor Johnston led the way defensively with 10 and nine digs, respectively.
  • Taylor's Kelly Arnold paced the Trojans with eight kills while Haley Harrell distributed 21 assists. She also posted a team-high 13 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • SET SCORES: 25-10, 25-20, 25-20
  • Kujat registered 10 kills as she continues to march towards 1,000 for her career. She currently sits at 947.
  • Landis and Kyser chipped in five kills each while Landis also posted a team-best five blocks.
  • Stotz and Follis combined to dish out 24 assists. Stotz also finished with a pair of service aces.
  • Four Cougars collected at least 10 digs, led by Johnston with 14. Walker picked up 12 fllowed by Stotz with 11 and Follis 10.
  • Mount Vernon Nazarene was guided by Annelise Rohrer with 12 kills and 11 digs. Ashley Gingerich finished with 20 digs and Kelsey Bryte had six blocks.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor will play its next three matches at home beginning with a contest against Bethel College (6-9, 2-2 CL) on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
