PITTSBURGH – Sophomore Lauren Orr tallied the first goal of her career in the fourth minute and the No. 1 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team never looked back on its way to a 4-0 win over Point Park University on Saturday.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: #1 Spring Arbor 4, Point Park 0
LOCATION: Highmark Stadium | Pittsburgh, Pa.
RECORDS: Spring Arbor 4-0-0, Point Park 0-1-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Orr got the scoring started, Bethany Balcer found the back of the net just over seven minutes later to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead that they would take into halftime.
- The score remained that way until Corrie Good found herself in the right place at the right to punch in a rebound in the 70th minute.
- Renee Broekhuizen capped the scoring in the 87th minute with an assist from Brooke Beaune.
- Spring Arbor was credited with 24 shots while holding Point Park to one. The Cougars also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- SAU goalkeeper Ashley Timmons saved the only shot she faced to register her third shutout of the campaign.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Today's match marked the third consecutive year the two sides have played each other. The Cougars are 3-0 in the series and have yet to surrender a goal to the Pioneers.
- Spring Arbor ranks first in the nation with four clean sheets this season while stretching their shutout streak to 14.
- With her goal today, Balcer is tied at the top of the Crossroads League rankings for the most goals scored with four. She is also tied for the league-lead with two assists.
FOR THE FOES

- Goalkeeper Morgan Willis made seven saves in the match.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH JASON CRIST
- "We did not start the match at the mental or physical intensity we expect. Our tempo and speed of play were not up to our standards. We were able to build a couple of nice goals in spite of ourselves."
- "The second half the players did a better job rising to the challenge. We pressed Point Park into their end and wore them down, creating some good looks at goal and resulting in a couple nice goals and several other excellent goal scoring chances."
- "Lauren Orr had a strong game in midfield and scored her first collegiate goal off a nice feed from Corrie Good."
- "Our backs, Sarah Klunder, Rachel DeLancey, Jacqueline Martin and Emily Mindling did a nice job closing space and keeping Point Park from getting any quality looks at our goal. They have been very solid and have allowed our midfield to grow into their roles so far this season."
