FINAL SCORE: Spring Arbor 56, Bethel 52

LOCATION: Wiekamp Athletic Center | Mishawaka, Ind.

RECORDS: Spring Arbor 10-9 (1-6 CL), Bethel 3-16 (0-7 CL)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After falling behind 2-0 to start the game, Goggin nailed a pair of three-pointers as part of eight unanswered points by Spring Arbor, and the Cougars would maintain that lead for most of the night.
  • Late in the second quarter, Goggin would bury another triple to push the SAU advantage to double digits as the Cougars took a 31-18 lead into halftime.
  • Goggin would rack up 16 points in the first half alone on 5-of-7 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from long range.
  • The Cougars stretched their lead to 14 at the 3:47 mark of the third quarter following a three from Karly Bender and a layup from Townsley. However, Bethel closed the period on an 8-2 run to get within eight, 40-32.
  • Bethel continued to fight back in the fourth quarter. The Pilots held the Cougars scoreless through the first six minutes of the stanza as they tallied 10 straight points to grab their first lead, 42-40, since the game's opening minute.
  • The two teams would trade baskets over the next three minutes. With Spring Arbor leading by four in the closing seconds, Bethel's Savannah Bley had a chance to trim the deficit to one with an old-fashioned three-point play. Bley would miss her free throw attempt, but the home team grabbed the rebound and hoisted a potential go-ahead three-pointer. The shot came up empty, however, and the Cougars would seal the win at the free throw line.
