Men's Basketball falls at Huntington

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball suffered just its second setback in its last nine games Saturday, falling at Huntington University 84-54 in Crossroads League action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Huntington was red-hot from long range all day long burying nine three-pointers through the first 20 minutes of action.
  • The Foresters hit three triples in the first three minutes to jump out to an early 11-4 lead. Back-to-back three's from Tommy Hamilton and Caleb Hogans though helped Spring Arbor close the gap.
  • The home team would go on a 12-5 run to push its lead to double digits on its way to taking a 42-33 lead into halftime. HU's Tyler Arens would tally 19 first half points on 7-for-10 shooting, including 4-for-4 from behind the arc.
  • Huntington maintained a comfortable cushion throughout the early stages of the second half, but Spring Arbor stayed within strike distance trailing by nine, 57-48, with 9:21 to play.
  • However, the Foresters erupted with a 21-2 run over the next six minutes to put the game out of reach.

 
 

FOR THE COUGARS

  • The setback was just the second in the last nine games for Spring Arbor.
  • Zach Medendorp scored a team-high 13 points and added six rebounds while Hamilton registered 11 points. Thomas Starks posted nine points and nine rebounds, and Hogans finished with eight points and seven boards.
  • The Cougars, who came in averaging 86 points per game and shooting 55 percent as a team over the last eight games, were held to a season-low 54 points and limited to just 32 percent (20-for-62) shooting on the afternoon, including 5-for-22 from three-point range.

 
 

FOR THE FORESTERS

  • Arens and Mike Bush led the way for Huntington. Arens finished with 25 points, seven rebounds and two blocks while Bush totaled 21 points, including 18 in the second half, and 10 assists.
  • The Foresters knocked down 15 three-pointers on the afternoon while connecting on 49 percent (32-for-66) of its total field goals.
  • Huntington out-rebounded SAU 40-39, and forced the Cougars into 11 turnovers while giving the ball away just seven times.

 
 

UP NEXT
