SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 2 ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team secured its seventh straight Crossroads League regular season championship Wednesday night with an 8-0 victory over Bethel College at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
With the triumph, the Cougars clinch the top seed and home field advantage throughout the upcoming Crossroads League Tournament.
Following the match, Spring Arbor honored their 11 seniors – Camille Hunter, Autumn Sharp, Morgan Zuhl, Ashley Timmons, Jacquelyn Martin, Aubrey Schierbeek, Sarah Klunder, Renee Broekhuizen, Abbey Fuller, Kelly Hoffius and Katie Hamlin. The 2017 senior class is the winningest class in program history. They have amassed an 80-5-4 record so far, including a 34-0-1 mark in league play capturing four straight league titles. They have led the program to three consecutive NAIA National Championship final site appearances, including a Sweet 16 finish, a national runner-up finish, and a national championship in 2015.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With Huntington University earned a 0-0 draw with Marian University earlier in the afternoon, Spring Arbor could clinch the league championship with a win over Bethel.
- The Cougars scored early and often against the Pilots. Bethany Balcer scored her first of four goals less than a minute into the contest. Balcer would find the back of the net three times in the first 32 minutes.
- Renee Broekhuizen and Aubrey Schierbeek also notched goals in the first half to give SAU a 5-0 lead at halftime.
- The Cougars tacked on three more goals in the second stanza, including one by Kendra Spencer.
- Spring Arbor dominated from start to finish owning a 26-6 shot advantage while also earning 13 corner kicks compared to Bethel's three.
- Ashley Timmons and Allison Keizer made two saves apiece in the shutout.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Spring Arbor is 17-0-0 against Bethel since the 2006 season.
- SAU finished the regular season with a perfect 9-0-0 record at home. The Cougars have won 45 straight matches on their home field dating back to the 2014 season.
- Balcer has recorded at least one goal in each of the last five games. She has scored multiple goals in a match eight times this year.
- The shutout was the 13th for SAU this year – the second-most in the NAIA.

Spring Arbor will close out the regular season with a trip to No. 15 Marian University (13-2-2, 6-0-2 CL) on Saturday, Oct. 28.
The Crossroads League Tournament will kickoff on Wednesday, Nov. 1 with the quarterfinals. The tournament semifinals will be played on Saturday, Nov. 4 with the championship match scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11.
