UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team fell to Governors State University 72-67 in its season opener on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game featured 10 ties, but Governors State took the lead for good with 7:59 to play in the fourth quarter.
- Senior Autumn Goggin led the way for Spring Arbor with 16 points. She also finished with five rebounds and three assists. Two other Cougars scored in double figures. Freshman Gracie Cabana had 11 in her collegiate debut to go along with five assists while sophomore Kaitlyn Shields added 10.
- Gabby Barnett had nine points and five boards while Rachel Nelson grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
- Spring Arbor shot 44 percent (23-for-52) from the floor and Governors State hit on 42 percent (25-for-60) of its attempts.
- The Cougars also had a slight 36-35 edge in rebounds.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will host the University of Michigan-Dearborn (1-3) in its home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
