Spring Arbor, MICH. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team's second half rally fell short, dropping its home opener to the University of Michigan-Dearborn 62-59 on Wednesday night.
The Cougars trailed by as much as 22 in the second half, and 17 in the fourth quarter. Energized by a great second half from freshman Gracie Cabana, the home team clawed its way back into the contest. A late stop gave Spring Arbor a chance to send the contest to overtime on the last possession, but a three-point attempt from senior Autumn Goggin rattled in and out as time expired.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The visitors of Michigan-Dearborn jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before seniors Faith Johnson and Goggin cut into the lead, 6-4.
- The Wolverines ended the first quarter on a 9-3 run, led by Chloe Godbold, who buried a triple to end the quarter, 15-7.
- Michigan-Dearborn showed off its touch shooting 41 percent (7-for-17) from deep to carry a 12 point lead into the half, 35-23.
- The lead for the visitors was pushed to 22 in the third quarter behind the hot hand of Sade Lemons, who lead all Wolverines in scoring with 16 points.
- The Cougars trailed 48-26 with 4:40 to play in the third quarter, and prior to making a valiant second half push. Led by Cabana, who had 13 of her team high 20 points in the second half, and Anne Marie Wright, who scored seven of her 11 in the fourth period, the Cougars trimmed the deficit to three with under a minute to play.
- After a huge defensive stop for the Cougars, the home team had the ball with a chance to tie. A missed shot from Cabana allowed for an offensive rebound and kick out to Goggin. Goggin's triple rattled in and out as time expired.
- SAU was led by Cabana, who led all scorers with 20, and Wright, who finished with 11.
- The Cougars outscored Michigan-Dearborn 23-9 in the fourth quarter.
- Spring Arbor led the Wolverines in bench scoring (33-25) and points in the paint (24-22).
FOR THE WOLVERINES
- The Wolverines were led in scoring by Lemons with 16. Jeorgia Jones' 11 and Emily Heinrich's 10 rounded out the scoring leaders for the visitors.
- Michigan-Dearborn led from start to finish in this contest.
