NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team outlasted Holy Cross College 93-80 in double overtime Saturday afternoon to pick up its first win of the season.
Spring Arbor outscored Holy Cross 13-0 in the second overtime to hand the previously unbeaten Saints their first setback of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Holy Cross led by 11 midway through the fourth quarter, 65-54, but an 11-1 run by Spring Arbor trimmed the deficit to one with 2:56 to play in regulation. Back-to-back buckets from Autumn Goggin and Gabby Barnett ignited the run before Rachel Nelson capped it with four straight points.
- Free throws by Gracie Cabana and Goggin put SAU up by two, 71-69, with 12 seconds to go. However, Holy Cross hit a shot in the closing seconds to tie the score and force overtime.
- The Cougars trailed by one in the final seconds of the first extra period before Barnett converted an old-fashioned three-point play to give SAU the lead. The Saints did not go away, though, again scoring to send the teams to a second overtime period.
- The second OT was all Spring Arbor as the Cougars outscored the home team 13-0.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Goggin and freshman Anne Marie Wright led the way for Spring Arbor with 22 points apiece. Goggin also posted eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Barnett recorded a career-high 16 points and Nelson finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. Cabana dished out a team-high six assists.
- Spring Arbor was 44 percent (31-for-70) from the floor and 37 percent (7-for-19) from three-point range.
- The Cougars dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Saints 53-31.
FOR THE SAINTS
- Tagin Schultheis paced Holy Cross with 19 points while three other Saints also scored in double figures.
- Holy Cross shot 37 percent (26-for-70) from the field while being held to 28 percent (9-for-32) from behind the arc.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor travels to Adrian, Michigan to battle No. 22 Siena Heights University (0-0) on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
