Cougars drop road test at Taylor

UPLAND, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team traveled to Taylor University for its first conference road game of the season. The home team's high-powered offense was too much for the Cougars as the Trojans knocked down 15 three-pointers on the night on their way to a 76-49 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Freshman Anne Marie Wright knocked down a triple try early to give the Cougars their only lead of the game, 3-2.
  • Taylor then went on a quick 7-0 run, led by Cassidy Wyse and Kendall Bradbury, who combined for 15 of the Trojans' 17 in the first quarter. Taylor led at the first break 17-10.
  • The home team got red-hot in the second quarter hitting 7-of-11 from behind the arc, extending the advantage to as much as 24.
  • A Rachel Nelson triple to end the half pulled the Cougars within 21 heading to the break, 44-23.
  • Spring Arbor cut the lead to 18 as Autumn Goggin hit from deep, but the Trojan offense was too much.
  • Taylor outscored Spring Arbor 20-4 in the remainder of the third quarter.
  • Spring Arbor played their best quarter of the night in the last quarter. The visitors outscored Taylor 19-14 in the fourth. Gracie Cabana scored all 10 of her points in the last frame.

 
 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • SAU was paced by freshmen guards Anne Marie Wright and Gracie Cabana, who scored 13 and 10 respectively.
  • The Cougar defense did manage to turn the Trojans over 13 times on the night.

 
 

FOR THE TROJANS

  • Taylor was led by Bradbury, who posted another double-double scoring 20 and pulling down 14 rebounds. 
  • The Trojans had three ladies in double figures. Wyse led the way with 23 and Josie Cobb pitched in with 14. 
  • Taylor attempted 40 three-pointers on the night, connecting with 15 of them. The Trojans shot 81 percent from inside the arc as well.

Spring Arbor will hit the road again this Saturday, Dec. 2 for a 1 p.m. tip with the Knights of Marian University.
