ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team took down a nationally ranked opponent for the second time this season Saturday afternoon, going on the road and defeating No. 21 Rochester College 70-57.
The win was the fifth straight for Spring Arbor to open the season. The Cougars are off to their best start since opening the 2014-15 campaign with a 6-0 mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rochester opened the game by hitting a three-pointer on its first possession, but that would be the Warriors only lead of the afternoon.
- A triple from Drew Zuidema tied the game at the 17:55 mark, and Paul Marandet knocked down two free throws to put SAU in front and the Cougars would never surrender their lead.
- Spring Arbor led by 15 at halftime, and by as many as 20 in the second half.
- Rochester made a run and cut the deficit to single digits with less than five minutes to play, but an old-fashioned three point play from Zach Medendorp with 3:49 to go helped clinch the victory.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Spring Arbor had five players score in double figures. Tommy Hamilton led the way with 13 points while adding four assists. Zuidema and Luke Barber knocked down three triples each and both finished with 12 points.
- Marandet notched his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. He narrowly missed a triple-double after dishing out eight assists.
- Medendorp finished with 11 points and Jeff Beckman had a team-high 11 boards to go along with four points.
- Spring Arbor shot 45 percent (19-for-42) from the field and 50 percent (10-for-20) from three-point range. The Cougars were also 88 percent (22-for-25) from the free throw line.
FOR THE WARRIORS
- Kash Blackwell and Justin Nafso paced Rochester with nine points each.
- The Warriors were limited to 34 percent (20-for-58) shooting, including just 6-for-25 from behind the arc.
