SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team led wire to wire against local rival Siena Heights University in a 63-46 victory Wednesday. The Cougars opened the evening on an 18-0 run and cruised to their sixth straight win to open the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Arbor scored the first 18 points of the contest.
- Siena Heights was not able to get on the scoreboard until the 10:48 mark of the first half. The Saints went 0-for-6 from the field and committed eight turnovers in the first nine minutes.
- The Cougars led by 16 at halftime, 34-18, and increased the lead to 20 early in the second half.
- Spring Arbor forced the visitors into 23 turnovers on the night and converted those turnovers into 27 points.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Paul Marandet had 21 points to lead the way for SAU. It was his third 20-point performance in the last four games. He also added five assists and three steals.
- Zach Medendorp had 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting with four boards. Tommy Hamilton finished with nine points and five rebounds while Jeff Beckman hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.
- Spring Arbor shot 37 percent (22-for-59) from the floor and was 88 percent (15-for-17) from the free throw line.
FOR THE SAINTS
- Tony Jackson paced Siena Heights with 14 points and eight rebounds. Josh Winowiecki had nine points and 10 boards.
- The Saints were held to 36 percent (17-for-47) shooting, including a dismal 4-for-23 from behind the arc.
- Siena Heights had the edge on the glass, out-rebounding SAU 41-31.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will travel to Ypsilanti, Michigan to take on Eastern Michigan University on Friday, Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m. The game is the first in NCAA Division I basketball this season.
