SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Paul Marandet scored a team-high 22 points and Jeff Beckman recorded a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to lead Spring Arbor University to a 91-69 win over NCAA Division II Purdue University Northwest in a non-conference game on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Arbor and Purdue Northwest went back and forth, trading baskets for the first 10 minutes of the contest.
- With the score tied 20-20 at the 9:45 mark, the Cougar defense held the visitors without a field goal for more than five minutes while using a 17-1 run to take command. Beckman ignited the run with an old-fashioned three-point play while Tommy Hamilton and Luke Barber buried triples of their own during the span.
- Spring Arbor stretched its lead to 17, 49-32, heading into halftime after a late jumper by Marandet.
- Purdue Northwest trimmed the deficit to 14, 54-40, early in the second half, but that was as close as the Pride would get.
- Seven straight points from Jameson Pavelka in just over a minute's time helped put the game out of reach.
FOR THE COUGARS
- In addition to his 22 points, Marandet dished out six assists and recorded three steals.
- Zach Medendorp and Hamilton posted 16 points apiece. Medendorp also finished with four rebounds and three blocked shots.
- Beckman notched his third double-double of the season and his second in the last two games.
- Spring Arbor shot 42 percent (28-for-66) from the field and 84 percent (21-for-27) from the free throw line.
- The Cougars, who rank 11th in the NAIA in field goal percent defense, limited the Pride to 31 percent shooting on the afternoon.
FOR THE PRIDE
- Purdue Northwest was led by Tyree Coe and Chris Nunn. Coe had 21 points while Nunn finished with 10.
- The Pride shot 31 percent (23-for-73) for the game, but shot 43 percent (10-for-23) from three-point range. The visitors struggled from the charity stripe, making just 13-of-28 attempts from the free throw line.
