COLUMBIA, Ky. – Spring Arbor University won a battle of top 10 teams Friday night as the No. 1 ranked Cougars defeated No. 10 Lindsey Wilson College 3-1 on the opening day of the 2017 Lindsey Wilson Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Arbor opened the scoring with a goal from Bethany Balcer in the 31st minute.
- Lindsey Wilson answered less than a minute later with a goal of its own. LWC's Veronica Kurtz was brought down in the box earning a penalty kick, and Sanna Svensson cashed in on the opportunity.
- The Cougars broke the deadlock in the 55th minute as Balcer found the back of the net for the second time. A cross from Haley Lord found the head of Balcer for the goal.
- Balcer helped put the game out of reach with her third tally of the night in the 63rd minute.
- Spring Arbor outshot Lindsey Wilson 13-12 while the Blue Raiders held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
- Goalkeeper Ashley Timmons finished the night with four saves.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The victory was the third straight for Spring Arbor over Lindsey Wilson after going winless against the Blue Raiders in the prior 11 meetings.
- The Cougars conceded their first goal of the season – snapping a six-match shutout streak.
- Balcer recorded her second hat trick of the season and the fifth of her career.
FOR LINDSEY WILSON
- Lindsey Wilson played its fifth straight match against an opponent either ranked or receiving votes in the Top 25.
- Spring Arbor's first goal of the night broke a 362-minute scoreless streak by Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper Jovana Ivanovic. Ivanovic made four saves in the match.
- Amara Safuan recorded a team-high five shots.
