MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team defeated Bethel College in three hard-fought sets Wednesday night to take home their first Crossroads League victory of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It took extra points in each of the first two sets, but a resilient Spring Arbor squad came out on top. Facing set point, 25-24, in the opening frame, the Cougars battled back to claim the set 28-26.
- In the second set, Bethel saw a 23-18 lead evaporate as Spring Arbor clawed its way back to force overtime. Back-to-back kills from Courtney Kyser started the run. With the Cougars leading 25-24, Kyser finished the Pilots with her fifth kill of the set.
- After playing from behind throughout most of the first two sets, Spring Arbor used a 5-1 run midway through the third set to pull away and secure the win.
- Kyser finished with a match-high 11 kills while also posting four blocks. Sydney Ritz followed with nine kills and Alyssa Walker tallied eight.
- Annica Stotz recorded 25 assists and Emily Martin added 15 more.
- Stephaney Fifield anchored the defense with 27 digs while Leah Rose picked up 18.
FOR BETHEL
- Bethel was led by Kathryn Novy with seven kills and Haley Brown chipped in six.
- The Pilots were limited to a .076 hitting percentage on the night.
UP NEXT
After playing the first 14 matches on the road, Spring Arbor will welcome Grace College (6-4, 1-1 CL) to town for the home opener on Friday, Sept. 8. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
