HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor and Grace entered Wednesday night's top 25 showdown as two of the hottest teams in the country with both teams riding 10-game winning streaks.
  • The Lancers had posted eight consecutive shutouts, but Bethany Balcer put an end to the streak early, scoring in the 11th minute. A GC turnover in its own end resulted in Makenzie Selvius finding Balcer at the top of the 18-yard box and she ripped a shot past the diving goalkeeper.
  • The Cougars added to their advantage 20 minutes later after converting a penalty kick. Brooke Beaune drew a foul inside the box, and Balcer calmly buried the ensuing PK to double the lead.
  • Selvius punctuated the night with her fifth goal of the season in the 67th minute.
  • Spring Arbor outshot Grace 23-6 with goalkeeper Allison Keizer stopping all three GC shots on frame. It was the second time this season the Lancers, who entered with a league-best 52 goals this season, had been held scoreless.
