GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team had five players reach double figures, led by Brandon Durnell's career-high 17 points, in a 77-61 win over Aquinas College in the Crossroads League/WHAC Challenge Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Arbor never trailed in victory.
- SAU opened the game on a 13-2 run behind six points from Paul Marandet. The Cougars led by as many 18 in the first half and took a 35-22 advantage into halftime.
- Aquinas would make a run, however, and close the gap to seven, 48-41, midway through the second stanza. Tom Hamilton put a halt to the Saints' rally with five consecutive points, including a clutch three-pointer, and Spring Arbor would maintain a comfortable margin the rest of the way.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Durnell also collected a career-high 13 rebounds to record his second career double-double. Hamilton followed with 15 points and five assists while Marandet had 14 points and seven assists.
- Nick Welch finished with 13 points and six boards, and Luke Barber chipped in 12 points while knocking down four triples.
- Spring Arbor connected on 52 percent (30-for-58) of its field goal attempts, including going 8-for-19 from three-point range.
- The Cougars out-rebounded the Saints 36-23.
FOR THE SAINTS
- Aquinas was led by Rob Deiz and Jesse Hills, who finished with 22 and 20 points, respectively.
- The Saints shot 47 percent (24-for-51) and made 10 three-pointers.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor begins a four-game homestand when it welcomes local rival Albion College to the McDonald Athletic Center on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
