SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team used a late fourth quarter run to trim a nine-point deficit to one possession in the final minute, but Aquinas College held on to defeat the Cougars 70-64.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Aquinas raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes. Anne Marie Wright got Spring Arbor going with a three-pointer, which sparked a 10-2 run to tie the score midway through the first quarter.
- In the second quarter, the Cougars would make four three's in the first five minutes on their way to building a 29-24 lead. The home team would take a 31-30 advantage into halftime.
- The game remained tight until the Saints created some cushion with an 11-3 run during the fourth quarter, giving the visitors a 62-53 lead with 4:39 remaining.
- The Cougars trailed by eight with under two minutes to play when they notched six unanswered points in a 40 second span to get within one possession. After a Rachel Nelson layup and two free throws from Wright, SAU forced a turnover on the inbound pass and Cierra Lipps scored to close the gap to two, 66-64. However, Aquinas halted the run with a basket on its next possession and put the game away with free throws in the closing seconds.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Nelson and Wright posted season-highs with 22 and 19 points. Wright matched her career-high with five three-pointers.
- Gracie Cabana finished with nine points and five assists while Gabby Barnett ripped down a game-high nine rebounds.
- Spring Arbor shot 44 percent (22-for-50) from the floor, including a season-high 10 three's.
FOR THE SAINTS
- Aquinas was led by Bri Spica, who recorded 25 points. Hannah Brefeld also scored in double figures with 18 points.
- The Saints shot 56 percent (27-for-48) on the afternoon, including a blistering 68 percent (15-for-22) over the final two quarters.

Spring Arbor will participate in the Huntington University Classic on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17. The Cougars play Indiana University Southeast (2-0) on Friday at 6 p.m. before facing off against Indiana University Kokomo (2-1) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
