SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team made a season-high 11 three-pointers against Alma College, but it was not enough as the Scots edged the Cougars 58-56 on Saturday inside the McDonald Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Arbor made its first three three-point attempts to jump out to an 11-4 lead midway through the first quarter. Another triple by Anne Marie Wright would extend SAU's lead to double digits late in the period.
- The Cougars maintained their lead throughout the second quarter, and a three-pointer from Gabby Barnett in the closing seconds put the home team in front 32-25 at halftime.
- The three-point barrage continued in the opening minutes of the third quarter with two trey's from Gracie Cabana, extending the margin back to 10, 38-28.
- Despite its shooting struggles, Alma stayed within striking distance. The Scots clawed their way back to close the gap to two, 48-46, heading into the final quarter.
- Early in the fourth period, Alma grabbed its first lead since the game's opening minutes. The Scots held a two point edge in the final minute and would make one last defensive stop before sealing the game at the free throw line.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Cabana matched her season-high with 16 points while hitting four three-pointers. She also grabbed five rebounds.
- Rachel Nelson finished with 14 points and four assists while Barnett posted a season-high 13 points with seven boards and four assists.
- Spring Arbor shot 35 percent (19-for-55) overall on the afternoon, but was 46 percent (11-for-24) from behind the arc. The Cougars were just 7-for-13 from the free throw line.
FOR THE SCOTS
- Emily Eldridge scored 17 points and hauled in 10 rebounds off the bench to lead Alma. Stasha Warchock finished with 16 points and Madison Hill had 11.
- Alma was limited to just 30 percent (17-for-56) shooting – its second-worst performance of the season. However, the Scots made up for it at the charity stripe going 20-for-22 on free throw attempts.
