Cougars' season ends in Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals

MARION, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team fell to Indiana Wesleyan University 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-15) in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday night.

The loss brings an end to a thrilling season for Spring Arbor. The resurgent Cougars finished with an overall record of 17-12 – the most wins since 2011 and the first winning record since 2010. SAU also posted an 8-10 mark in league play, finishing sixth in the regular season league standings and qualifying for the conference tournament for the first time in seven years.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor started fast, racing out to an 8-3 lead in the first set behind a pair of kills from Sydney Ritz and a service ace from Hope Notter.
  • Indiana Wesleyan rallied back and would lead 20-19 late. The Wildcats closed out the first frame on a 5-2 run to claim the set.
  • IWU, one of the top hitting teams in the league this season, was on fire in the second and third sets hitting .325 and .387 as a team combing for 31 kills with just six attack errors.
  • Ritz had seven kills and Alison Ford posted six to lead Spring Arbor. Annica Stotz finished with 18 assists and three kills.
  • Stephaney Fifield had 11 digs, Stotz picked up nine and Olivia Slenk collected eight. Claudia Ellis registered four blocks and Ritz was credited with three.
