Women's Basketball falls on the road at Michigan-Dearborn

DEARBORN, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team fell to undefeated University of Michigan-Dearborn 68-54 on Wednesday night inside the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The loss dropped the Cougars to 2-2 on the year while the Wolverines improved to an unblemished 4-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ryann Laier opened the game with a layup to give Spring Arbor a quick lead. Gabby Barnett would also score seven points in the first eight minutes to help make it a 12-12 game late in the first quarter.
  • The Wolverines ended the first period with five answered points, however, and quickly push its lead to double digits in the second quarter as part of a 13-2 run.
  • The home team increased the margin to 34-18 at halftime and the deficit was too much for SAU to overcome.

 
 

FOR THE COUGARS

  • Cierra Lipps went 4-for-5 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range on her way to a game-high 13 points.
  • Rachel Nelson finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals while Barnett added nine points and four boards. Teona Feldpausch chipped in seven points off the bench.
  • Spring Arbor shot 44 percent (22-for-50) on the night, including 56 percent (14-for-25) over the final two quarters.

 
 

FOR THE WOLVERINES

  • Ro'Zhane Wells led Michigan-Dearborn with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Sade Lemons and Natalie Spala followed with nine points apiece.
  • The Wolverines connected on 43 percent (24-for-56) of their field goals.
  • The home team held a 30-25 advantage on the glass and forced Spring Arbor into 19 turnovers while committing 12.
