SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – A strong second quarter provided enough cushion for No. 6 Marian University to come away with a 68-55 victory over Spring Arbor University in a Crossroads League battle Wednesday night inside the McDonald Athletic Center.
The Knights outscored the Cougars 15-8 in the second quarter, giving them a double-digit lead heading into halftime, and the visitors would make that lead stand.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- No. 6 ranked Marian held a slim 18-14 lead over Spring Arbor early in the second quarter, but the defending Crossroads League champions would rattle off five quick points and end the period on a 12-5 run to take a 30-19 advantage into halftime.
- The Knights expanded the lead to as many as 20 in the third quarter, but the Cougars continued to fight, ending the stanza on a run of their own. Rachel Nelson scored five straight points and Anne Marie Wright buried a three-pointer to cap the scoring spurt.
- Spring Arbor closed the gap to 10, 60-50, with 5:08 remaining in the game following three consecutive triples – two from Wright and one from Ryann Laier. That was as closed as the Cougars would get, however, as Marian was able to hold off the late charge.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Wright recorded a season-high 20 points while sinking a career-best six three-pointers.
- Nelson finished with 18 points and six rebounds while Gracie Cabana chipped in seven points.
- Spring Arbor shot 37 percent (17-for-46) for the game, including 48 percent (11-for-23) over the final 20 minutes.
- The Cougars' 12 three-pointers made were a season-high.
FOR THE KNIGHTS
- Dejah Cyrus led Marian with 17 points. Macie Lively followed with 16 and Abby Downard finished with 14.
- The Knights connected on 43 percent (25-for-58) of their field goal attempts.
- MU outscored SAU 14-4 in the paint and 21-12 off of turnovers.
