SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team brought great energy to the second half, but was not able not able to dig out of an early hole as its comeback fell short losing to Grace College 71-61 Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trailing as many as 20 points in the first half, Spring Arbor fought its way back into the game in the fourth quarter.
- The Cougars closed the gap with big three-pointers from Anne Marie Wright and Gracie Cabana, and several big defensive stands.
- With 2:53 left in the final quarter, the Cougars cut the deficit to four, 61-57, after two free throws from Gabby Barnett.
- The Lancers retaliated with an old-fashioned three point play from Vironnica Drake to pad their lead, and ultimately hold on to win 71-61.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Cabana and Wright paced the Cougars with 14 and 11 points and knocking down three triples apiece. Barnett added 10 points and eight rebounds.
- Senior Autumn Goggin recorded nine points and two assists while fellow senior Faith Johnson had three points and a game-high five assists.
- Spring Arbor shot 38 percent (21-for-55) from the field and went 11-for-14 from the free throw line shooting 79 percent.
FOR THE LANCERS
- Brooke Sugg scored 30 points to lead the Lancers and Drake recorded a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
- Grace shot 43 percent (27-for-62) from the field.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor (10-17, 4-12 CL) will host Goshen College at the SAU Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14 in its final home game of the regular season.
