Goggin drops 30, ties single-game three-point record in win against Goshen

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - Senior guard Autumn Goggin tied Spring Arbor University's single-game three-point record after shooting 9-for-13 from beyond the arc and scoring a game-high 30 points to lead the Cougars to a 75-59 victory over Goshen College on Wednesday night.

Goggin finished her final game at Bockwitz Court going 10-for-15 from the field while adding a career-high 10 assists to register her second double-double of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A 10-0 first quarter run, capped by a four-point play by Goggin, put Spring Arbor up 19-10 and the Cougars would never trail again.
  • Goshen, searching for its first league win of the year, kept the game close throughout the first half and only trailed by two with less than a minute to go in the second quarter. A late basket by Gabby Barnett, however, boosted SAU's lead to four, 38-34, heading into halftime.
  • The Cougars went up by 11 with 4:51 left in the third quarter after Goggin fueled an 11-0 run with a pair of three-pointers.
  • With eight minutes left in the contest, Goggin buried her ninth triple of the night, extending the Cougars lead to 65-44 and putting the game out of reach for the Maple Leafs.

 
 

FOR THE COUGARS

  • Goggin tied the program's single-game three-point record shooting 9-for-13 from long range. Kandi Tanner established the record during the 1991-92 season and had stood alone, untouched for 26 seasons before tonight. Goggin finished the game with her second double-double recording 30 points, 10 assists and six rebounds.
  • Anne Marie Wright added 10 points off the bench and Rachel Nelson had nine. Faith Johnson dished out eight assists while Ryann Laier posted six points, 11 boards and five assists.
  • Spring Arbor shot 47 percent (27-for-57) from the field and made 13 triples.

 
 

FOR THE MAPLE LEAFS

  • Carley O'Neal recorded 17 points to lead Goshen while Sydney Stein scored 16 and Keyaira Murff added 15.
  • The Maple Leafs were limited to 32 percent (23-for-72) shooting on the evening.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor (11-17, 5-12 CL) will travel to No. 20 Indiana Wesleyan University (22-7, 14-3 CL) to close out the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m.
