SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team pounded out 21 hits and scored 19 runs en route to its best offensive series of the season as the Cougars swept the University of Saint Francis in Crossroads League action Friday.
Spring Arbor run-ruled Saint Francis 9-0 in five innings in game one, and scored six runs in the sixth inning of game two to enforce the mercy rule again, winning 10-2.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor scored in each of the four innings it batted, including five runs in the fourth.
- Kelsey Brown led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to give the Cougars a 5-0 lead. After three consecutive walks, freshman Jade Nowe smacked a 3-2 offering from USF's Lexy Sanders over the fence in left-center field for a grand slam.
- Hope Longenbarger and Hannah Rozeveld collected two hits apiece while Brown, Longenbarger and Jordan Burman each scored twice.
- In addition to a big day at the plate, Brown also tossed a one-hit shutout. The senior pitcher struck out six batters over five innings of work.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- A two-out, RBI single by Hannah VanManen in the bottom of the second inning gave Spring Arbor a 1-0 lead. The Cougars added to their advantage with three more runs in the third. Sydney Taylor and Rozeveld provided the run scoring hits in the inning.
- Saint Francis clawed its way back into the game with a two-run homer in the fourth to cut the deficit in half.
- With SAU still leading 4-2, the Cougars put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to bring the mercy run into effect. VanManen brought home two runners with a double, and Maddison Brock followed with a base hit to plate VanManen. Aubrey Herrema kept the line moving with an RBI single, and Longenbarger blasted a walk-off two-run home run to cap the scoring.
- Five Cougars recorded multiple hits, and six of SAU's 13 hits went for extra bases. VanManen was 2-for-3 with three RBI's and a run scored while Taylor and Herrema scored two times each.
- Lauren Heath earned the win, pitching all six innings giving up two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
