GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- A tough task laid ahead for Spring Arbor as it was set to face one of the top teams in the country and one of the best pitchers in the Crossroads League in IWU's Carlie Weaver. Weaver entered the day owning a 1.78 earned run average and a league-best 12 wins.
- The Cougars jumped on Weaver right away, however, with Sydney Taylor blasting a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to put SAU on top 3-2.
- Spring Arbor threatened again in the second, loading the bases with two outs, but was unable to score.
- The Cougars chased Weaver after just two innings pitched, and in the bottom of the fourth, Taylor greeted relief pitcher Danielle Munn with a two-run bomb – her second of the day – to extend SAU's lead to 6-2.
- The high-powered Indiana Wesleyan offense came alive in the fifth inning, though, scoring five runs to take a 7-6 lead. The visitors would tack on two more runs in the sixth to increase the margin to three.
- Taylor went 3-for-4 at the plate with two homers and five RBI's. Kelsey Brown, Jade Nowe and Jessica Marwede posted two hits apiece.
- Brown suffered the loss in the circle allowing nine runs on 13 hits with five strikeouts.
