SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University softball team split a Crossroads League doubleheader with Huntington University on Thursday. The Cougars defeated the Foresters 6-3 in game one, but the visitors returned the favor, edging out SAU 5-3 in game two.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the third inning. With the bases loaded, Hannah VanManen cleared the bases with a triple to left field giving the Cougars a 4-1 advantage.
- Huntington pushed two runs across in the fifth inning to close the gap to one, but Jordan Burman added a couple big insurance runs for the Cougars with a two-run home run in the sixth.
- The Foresters brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Kelsey Brown struck out the next batter to end the threat and the game.
- Spring Arbor collected 12 hits in the contest. Brown, Burman, Sydney Taylor and Jade Nowe recorded two hits apiece.
- Brown pitched all seven innings to earn the win. She allowed three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Spring Arbor's Lauren Heath and Huntington's Meghan Fretz were locked in a pitcher's duel in game two with each pitcher posting zeroes through the first four frames.
- Huntington was able to strike first, scoring three times in the fifth.
- The Cougars got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the fifth on Burman's ninth homer of the season – a solo shot to make it a 3-1 game.
- Trailing 5-1 in the seventh, SAU capitalized on a Forester error to bring two runs home. But, that was as close as the Cougars would get.
- Burman went 3-for-3, including a home run and a double, and scored twice. Hope Longenbarger also recorded a multi-hit game going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Heath pitched 5.2 innings giving up three earned runs and struck out three batters. Melody Donovan tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts.
