Cougars complete 4-0 weekend at SHU Invitational

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team put the finishing touches on an unblemished weekend at the Siena Heights University Invitational with a 3-0 win over Siena Heights and another 3-0 win over the University of Saint Francis (Ill.) on Saturday.

Junior Sydney Ritz was named co-MVP of the tournament along with Campbellsville's Paige Merrick. Ritz finished the tournament with 49 kills over four matches, averaging 3.5 kills per set, with a blistering .484 hitting percentage. Joining Ritz on the all-tournament team was Stephaney Fifield, who collected 50 digs (3.8 digs per set) and 13 service aces.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor handed Siena Heights its first loss of the season, defeating the Saints in three closely contested sets.
  • Sydney Ritz was the only Cougar to reach double figure kills with 10 while hitting at a .400 clip. Claudia Ellis and Alison Ford recorded eight kills each.
  • Hope Notter handed out 18 assists and Annica Stotz finished with 17.
  • Stephaney Fifield and Alyssa Walker paced the defense with 13 and 10 digs, respectively.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Cougars wrapped up the weekend with its second sweep of the day in a three-set win over Saint Francis (Ill.).
  • Ritz and Ford pounded down 11 kills each while Ellis and Kyara Black posted seven apiece.
  • Notter had a season-high 21 assists and Stotz added 18 more.
  • Walker registered four service aces to go along with six digs.
  • Ritz collected a double-double with 12 digs in addition to her 11 kills. She also had four blocks at the net.
