Saint Francis erupts in fourth quarter to down Women's Basketball

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team fell to the University of Saint Francis 73-46 on Wednesday night at the Hutzell Athletic Center.

Spring Arbor trailed by six heading into the fourth quarter, but USF exploded for 30 points over the final 10 minutes to break the game open.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor led 14-8 after the first quarter. The Cougars ended the period on a 5-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Anne Marie Wright before the buzzer.
  • Another three from Wright in the opening moments of the second quarter gave SAU its largest lead of the night, 17-10.
  • Saint Francis turned the tables on the Cougars, however, with a 19-2 run on its way to grabbing a 29-23 lead going into halftime.
  • The home team maintained its lead throughout the third quarter. USF took a slim six point advantage into the fourth quarter before breaking the game open with nine unanswered points to begin the period.

 
 

FOR SPRING ARBOR

  • Wright had a team-high 11 points. Rachel Nelson finished with eight points and four rebounds while Kristina Grace recorded six points.
  • Ryan Laier and Teona Feldpausch hauled in five rebounds apiece while also scoring four points each.
  • Spring Arbor shot 49 percent (18-for-37) on the night. SAU attempted just six free throws while making four of them.
  • The Cougars committed a season-high 27 turnovers and USF converted those giveaways into 28 points.

 
 

FOR SAINT FRANCIS

  • Lauren McBryar led the way for Saint Francis with a career-high 31 points. McBryar made six three-pointers in the game.
  • USF made 44 percent (23-for-52) of its field goal attempts and went 17-for-24 from the free throw line.
