GOSHEN, Ind. – Gracie Cabana drained a three-pointer with 21 seconds left on the clock and the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team held on for a tight 51-50 victory over Goshen College on Saturday afternoon.
Goshen led for most of the second half, and by as many as eight in the fourth quarter. Cabana and Rachel Nelson helped fuel the comeback though, combining for all 14 SAU points in the fourth quarter, including an 8-0 run over the final 4:21 of the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Goshen got off to a fast start, making five three-pointers in the first quarter on its way to building a 22-14 lead.
- However, the second quarter was all Spring Arbor as the Cougars outscored the home team 15-5 to grab a 29-27 advantage at halftime.
- The lead changed hands five times early in the third quarter before Goshen gained control with five unanswered points. The Maple Leafs would remain in front until the final minute of the game.
- With SAU trailing by eight, 45-37, at the 7:02 mark of the fourth quarter, Nelson and Cabana began to take over. The duo would combine to score all 14 of the Cougars' points in the period. Nelson made two three-pointers during the run, including one to cut the deficit to two with 1:53 remaining. After a huge defensive stand, Cabana buried the go-ahead three with 21 seconds remaining in the game.
- Goshen had its chances in the closing seconds, including a pair of free throws with one second on the clock, but the Leafs were unable to capitalize.
- The Spring Arbor defense limited Goshen to just one field goal over the final 5:49 of the game, and held the Maple Leafs scoreless over the last 4:21.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Nelson finished with a game-high 18 points, moving her within four points of joining the program's 1,000 point club.
- Cabana added 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including four three-pointers – matching her career-high.
- Spring Arbor shot 39 percent (17-for-43) on the afternoon. The team also 10 three-pointers – the fifth time this season they have made at least 10 in a game.
FOR THE MAPLE LEAFS
- Goshen was paced by Taniece Chapman and Mariah Roe with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Chapman also hauled in 15 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.
- The Maple Leafs were held to 34 percent (20-for-58) shooting, including a 7-for-28 mark from behind the three-point line.
