Volleyball opens Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament with win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament, hosted by Indiana Tech. The Cougars opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Indiana University Kokomo before falling 3-0 to Thomas More College.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor put a halt to its skid by defeating an Indiana Kokomo squad that came in red-hot as winners of seven straight.
  • Sydney Ritz and Hope Notter recorded double-doubles to lead the Cougars. Ritz had 18 kills and 18 digs while Notter dished out a career-high 35 assists and 12 digs.
  • Sarah Chastain finished the match with four aces to go along with 12 digs. Emily Johnson picked up a season-high 13 digs and Paige Porter tallied 21. Kyara Black posted six blocks while Sarah Schmid registered four.

  • As a team, Thomas More hit .239 in the match while holding Spring Arbor to a season-low -.090 hitting percentage.
  • Ritz posted a team-high 10 kills followed by Alison Nibbelink with four.
  • Porter and Notter finished with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

 
 

UP NEXT

Spring Arbor will return for day two of the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament on Saturday. The Cougars are set to play host Indiana Tech (16-6) at 10 a.m. and Concordia (4-14) at 2 p.m.
