Volleyball splits on final day of Indiana Tech tournament

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University volleyball team closed its weekend at the Indiana Tech Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament on Saturday, splitting its final two matches. The Cougars were defeated by host Indiana Tech in five sets, but bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Concordia University.

Indiana Tech captured the tournament title with a 4-0 record on the weekend. Spring Arbor senior Sydney Ritz was named to the All-Tournament Team. Over four matches, Ritz racked up 54 kills, averaging 3.38 per set, and 49 digs.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor won the third set in extra points to take a 2-sets-to-1 lead, but Indiana Tech rallied back winning the next two sets to escape with the victory.
  • Ritz and Macey Rupp led the attack with 17 and 11 kills, respectively. Setter Hope Notter finished with 33 assists and 14 digs.
  • Paige Porter and Ritz recorded 19 digs apiece. Kyara Black continued to be a force at the net with six blocks.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

  • Spring Arbor closed out the tournament with a four-set victory over Concordia.
  • Rupp powered the attack with a career-high 16 kills. Ritz and Maggie Watson followed with nine while Alison Nibbelink notched six. Notter directed the offense with 35 assists.
  • Porter picked up a career-best 32 digs to anchor the defense. Sarah Schmid had six blocks while Black and Watson recorded four each.

Spring Arbor plays four of its next five matches at home beginning with a match against No. 3 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University (22-1, 9-1 CL) on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
