Selvius' hat trick leads Women's Soccer past Huntington in home finale

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's soccer team celebrated Senior Night with a 3-0 victory over Huntington University in its final match of the regular season on Wednesday night. Following the contest, the Cougars recognized nine seniors for their contributions to the program – Jordan Andersen, Kaley Buck, Sarah Drury, Shelby Fields, Anna Hoppe, Noelle Immink, Erin Karafa, Morgan Marshall and Emily Mindling.

Sophomore Mackenzie Selvius scored all three of the SAU goals to record the first hat trick of her career.

Spring Arbor finished the regular season tied for fifth in Crossroads League standings and will be the No. 6-seed in the upcoming Crossroads League Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Selvius tallied her first goal of the night less than five minutes into the match. Madison Marshall drew a foul inside the box, earning SAU a penalty kick, and Selvius calmly tucked a shot into the corner to give the Cougars an early lead.
  • The score remained 1-0 until the 58th minute when Selvius struck again, this time a blast from the top of the 18-yard box past the arms of the outstretched goalkeeper.
  • Selvius capped the scoring in the 82nd minute, finishing a cross from Madison Dudley.
  • Spring Arbor outshot Huntington 22-2 and held an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.

 
 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Spring Arbor improved to 17-0-0 against Huntington since 2006.
  • The shutout was the eighth of the season for SAU – the third-most in the Crossroads League.
  • Selvius registered the second multi-goal game of her career. The first coming last year with two goals against Goshen. She now has nine goals on the season, which ranks eighth in the conference.

 
 

UP NEXT

The Crossroads League Tournament is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Nov. 2. Spring Arbor will be the No. 6-seed in the tournament and will travel to No. 3-seed, and No. 16 nationally ranked, Grace College (14-3-1, 6-2-1 CL) for its quarterfinal matchup.
