Women's Basketball falls to local rival Albion

ALBION, Mich. – It was just a two point game at halftime, but Albion College outscored Spring Arbor University 38-21 over the final two quarters to deal the Cougars a 79-60 setback on Tuesday night.

The Cougars trailed Albion 44-42 at the 7:33 mark of the third quarter, but the undefeated Britons scored 16 unanswered points to break the game open.

Junior Gracie Cabana recorded a game-high 22 points while knocking down a career-high six 3-pointers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor went back-and-forth with the undefeated Britons through the first two quarters. The Cougars knocked down seven 3-pointers in the first half with four of those coming from Gracie Cabana, who had 16 points in the first half.
  • The lead changed hands 11 times through the first 20 minutes, including a bucket from Albion before the buzzer to give the home team a 41-39 lead at halftime.
  • The Britons pulled away in the third quarter, however, using a 16-0 run to take control of the game.

 
 

FOR THE COUGARS

  • Cabana finished with a game-high 22 points and made a career-high six 3-pointers. It was her second straight game scoring at least 20 points.
  • Cierra Lipps posted 14 points while Teona Feldpausch had nine points, seven rebounds and three assists. Anne Marie Wright chipped in eight points.
  • Spring Arbor shot 40 percent (17-for-42) on the night. The Cougars made 10 3-pointers, which tied for the most in a game this season.

 
 

FOR THE BRITONS

  • Rain Hinton was the leading scorer for Albion with 19 points. Evelyn Wischmeyer and Emily Bernas followed with 15 and 13, respectively.
  • Albion hit 50 percent (33-for-66) of its field goal attempts.
  • The Britons did most of the damage down low, outscoring SAU 54-12 in the paint.
