Michigan-Dearborn ends Cougars' home winning streak

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team suffered its first home loss in nearly two months on Saturday, falling to the University of Michigan-Dearborn 64-48.

The Cougars had won four straight inside the McDonald Athletic Center entering the contest, but the Wolverines ended the first quarter on an 11-0 run to take the lead and never looked back.

Gracie Cabana scored 22 points and Anne Marie Wright added 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Spring Arbor led 8-7 midway through the first quarter, but the Cougar offense would hit a cold spell and go nearly five minutes without scoring. Michigan-Dearborn capitalized on the opportunity and end the period on an 11-0 run to take control of the game.
  • The Wolverines maintained their lead throughout the second quarter and into the third.
  • The Cougars trailed by 12 at the 6:52 mark of the third, but five quick points off a three-pointer from Cierra Lipps and a layup from Wright got SAU within seven, 35-28. The visitors responded with a 13-3 run to close out the quarter and would hold on to snap SAU's home winning streak.

 
 

FOR THE COUGARS

  • Cabana turned in her third 20-point performance of the season, finishing with 22 points and knocking down four 3-pointers. Wright followed with 14 points.
  • Grace Shoobridge pulled down 15 rebounds.
  • Spring Arbor was held to 30 percent (16-for-53) from the field.

 
 

FOR THE WOLVERINES

  • 46 of Michigan-Dearborn's 64 points came off the bench. Mariah Taylor and Sade Lemons were the leading scorers – both players coming off the bench. Taylor had 20 and Lemons finished with 15.
  • The Wolverines shot 38 percent (22-for-58) on the afternoon.

 
 

UP NEXT

Crossroads League play resumes for the Cougars when they welcome No. 9 ranked Taylor University (13-0, 3-0 CL) to town on Saturday, Jan. 4. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
