MARION, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team fell to Crossroads League foe Indiana Wesleyan University 77-51 in its final road contest of the regular season on Wednesday night.
Spring Arbor trailed the No. 16 ranked Wildcats by just one at halftime, but late in the third quarter, IWU started what would become a 20-0 run to put the game out of reach for the Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Arbor made its first three 3-point attempts to start the game on its way to a 9-4 lead early in the first quarter.
- Later in the period, Rachel Nelson fueled another run, scoring the first five points of a 9-0 scoring spurt to help put SAU in front 18-15 after the first 10 minutes of play.
- Indiana Wesleyan battled to regain the lead and the second quarter, and would pull in front by as many as nine, 35-26. But, the Cougars closed out the half strong, outscoring IWU 9-1 over the final three minutes, including a 3-pointer from Gabby Barnett before the buzzer, to close the gap to one, 36-35, at the break.
- The deficit was still one with less than four minutes remaining in the third quarter when Indiana Wesleyan started its run. The Wildcats closed out the period with 11 unanswered points. The home team carried that momentum into the fourth quarter, scoring nine straight points to start the period, creating a 21-point cushion that the Cougars were not able to overcome.
FOR THE COUGARS
- Anne Marie Wright had a team-high 14 points and Nelson followed with 11.
- Barnett finished with eight points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks while Teona Feldpausch had six points and a team-high eight boards. Grace Shoobridge handed out a team-best four assists.
- Spring Arbor shot 37 percent (19-for-51) from the field and was 4-for-6 from the free throw line.
FOR THE WILDCATS
- Indiana Wesleyan was led by Nicole Ignasiak and Margot Woughter, who both scored 15 points apiece.
- The Wildcats made 53 percent (32-for-60) of their shots.
- IWU did most of its scoring down low with 46 points in the paint. The Wildcats also won the rebound battle 38-23.
UP NEXT
Spring Arbor will wrap up the regular season with a home game against Goshen College (8-21, 1-16 CL) on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. It will be Senior Day for the Cougars, and following the game the team will recognize its three seniors, Kristina Grace, Ryann Laier and Rachel Nelson.
