Softball drops two to No. 5 Marian in CL opener

INDIANAPOLIS – Spring Arbor University opened Crossroads League play against the defending league champions, and No. 5 ranked, Marian University on Monday afternoon. The Cougars dropped game one 12-1 before falling 8-0 in game two.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • After scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning, Marian broke the game wide open with a six-run second – capped by a three-run home run by Sadie Baugh.
  • Spring Arbor was limited to just two hits by the league's reigning Pitcher of the Year Breena Smith and Grace Lumpkin, who combined to allow just one Cougar run over five innings.
  • Chloe Gignac and Hope Longenbarger registered the only hits for SAU while Allison VanBrandt scored the lone run.

 
 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • The offensive struggles continued in game two for Spring Arbor. The Cougars were held scoreless for just the second time this year and managed two hits.
  • The Knights scored in every inning but the first on the way to their 12th consecutive victory.
  • Cora Millay and Sydney Taylor both recorded hits.

 
 

UP NEXT

The Cougars will look to bounce back when they travel to Bethel College (3-7, 0-0 CL) on Tuesday, Mar. 19. Game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
